You can’t buy love! But you can buy a home that you love!

5 Realistic Steps to Becoming a Homeowner

1. Set a Budget

Before you start looking for your new home, you’ll need to have a good idea of how much you can comfortably afford. When setting a budget, keep in mind that your monthly mortgage payment is not the only expense to consider. Remember to take into account any credit card and installment loan payments, utilities, taxes and insurance.

2. Save for Your Down Payment

When you buy a home, lenders may require that you put money down. This is commonly known as a down payment. Down payments can vary based upon the type of mortgage and typically range from 3.5 to 20% of the home purchase price.

3. Get Pre-Approved

Pre-approval is a useful step to take before starting your search for a home. By sharing some information about your income and debt, a lender can provide you with a letter stating how much you’ll likely be able to afford to borrow. In a competitive home-purchase market, sellers prefer offers from pre-approved buyers.

4. Research The Area You Want To Buy in

When you’re ready to start looking for houses, it’s important to research the area you want to buy in. You should also look at the schools in the area and see how they rate. Maybe consider work commute times and other factors that are important to you. The perfect location is ultimately a matter of personal choice. Only you can decide, but giving location your time and attention is definitely worth it! Where you choose to put down your roots can define your lifestyle more than anything else.

5. Find a Trusted Real Estate Agent

Navigating the paperwork and process that comes along with finding and buying your home can be daunting!
